Zoila Torres-Carranza, A native of Venezuela migrated to the United States when she was 11 year old, she was raised in New York where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology. At the age of 18 she started to accumulate experience in immigration law by working with a renowned immigration lawyer in the state of New York. At the young age of 18 she was exposed to different types of cases, it was then that she realized how important it was for her to help immigrants.

Later in life she moved to Florida where she received her law degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College of Law (FAMU). While in law school Zoila Torres-Carranza participated in the Hispanic American Student Association (HALSA), there she started a tutoring program and helped organize groups and mentors within the association. She was also part of the Environmental Law Symposium Committee; Zoila Torres-Carranza had a very active role in this organization, helped organized and coordinate the Symposium and acted as a liaison with international speakers.

Zoila Torres-Carranza, does not only have a passion for immigration law she has also been involved with environmental issues in the State of Florida and was part of numerous projects with a non profit environmental firm. In addition, she took great joy in her final school year in denouncing the environmental and human right violations that were taking place in South America by the oil industry. Her thesis on this project got her within the top grades of her class.

Zoila Torres-Carranza, also helped her community by providing pro bono assistance at the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, there she was engaged in helping families that had fallen into Mortgage Foreclosure and predatory lending. In her last year of law school she was picked out of a numerous candidates to participate in a criminal defense internship, there she gained litigation experience and knowledge of the in and outs of the criminal system.

After graduating law school she practice in the area of immigration, family and criminal law. Later she relocated to South Florida and practiced at a major national immigration law firm, there she was able to obtain extensive experience in all aspects of immigration law.
